d. Tonino Valerii

y. 1977
description:
"...it deals with three characters (and their African guide) who, after meeting up in the Sahara desert for a mystery job, become involved with a group of terrorists. The situation sees the two sides constantly double-crossing one another to gain the upper hand – the title (which is also how the film's called on its home ground), then, refers to their lengthy trek over a period of scorching days and freezing nights (via numerous means of transportation)." Vai Gorilla
d. Tonino Valerii
c. Italy
y. 1976
description:
"Unusual poliziottesco on a topical subject – “Euro-Cult” regular Fabio Testi is an undercover cop doubling as the bodyguard (hence, “Gorilla”) of a cantankerous middle-aged industrialist targeted for extortion. Amazingly, to bring the culprits out into the open, he beats the criminals at their own game by purporting to kidnap his own master (with the aid of his delinquent brother); to complicate matters further, he becomes involved with the industrialist’s own rebellious teenage daughter (naturally, she falls for him in the blink of an eye)! The rest of the ingredients are par for the course within this genre: pulsating score, nonstop action..." (IMDB Comment)

A Girl Called Jules
d. Tonino Valerii
c. Italy
y. 1970
description:
"After his Western triumphs, Valerii stepped out of the shadow of Sergio Leone with this distinctly Bergmanesque sexual melodrama. Dionisio is perfect in the title role and this remains her best film, Valerii turns up along the way too. Just when the film hits a period of auto pilot John Steiner turns up in the final reel for a climax that is quite unforgettable. A bit difficult to trace but well worth the effort." (IMDB Comment)

The Price of Power
d. Tonino Valerii
c. Italy
y. 1969
description:
"Italian director Tonino Valerii recreates a fistful of JFK conspiracy theories in Western settings with this bizarre look at the assassination of President James Garfield in 1890 Dallas. Granted, the assassination really occurred in Washington in 1881, but Valerii and screenwriter Massimo Patrizi don't let their allegory be ruined by facts. Anyway, it's a well-made film, with cinematography by Stelvio Massi and a suitably stentorian soundtrack by Luis Enrique Bacalov, but its appeal is probably limited to fans of Euro-oaters. Giuliano Gemma, Fernando Rey, and Van Johnson star, while genre enthusiasts will recognize veterans Frank Brana and Antonio Casas." (AMG)
